Cookie policy
This cookie policy explains which cookies and similar technologies lacasasibarita.co.uk uses and how you can manage your consent. Who is responsible for the website, what other data we process and what rights you have are explained in our privacy policy.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that your browser (for example Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari) stores when you visit most websites. Other storage techniques, such as your browser's local storage, work in a similar way. For simplicity, we call them all cookies here.
What is NOT a cookie?
It is not a virus, a Trojan, a worm, spam or spyware, and it does not open pop-up windows.
What information does a cookie store?
Cookies don't usually store sensitive information about you, such as credit card or bank details, photographs or personal information. The data they hold is technical or statistical, or relates to personal preferences, content personalisation and so on.
The web server links the cookie to your browser, not to you as a person. In fact, if you normally browse with Chrome and then visit the same website with Firefox, the website won't realise you're the same person, because it links the information to the browser, not to the person.
In short
- We do not set any analytics, statistics, advertising, remarketing or tracking cookies ourselves.
- The only cookies we set ourselves are those of our consent tool, Complianz, which store your choice. Only if you accept ‘Preferences’, our AI assistant also keeps your current conversation in your browser's session storage (see section 1).
- YouTube videos only load if you accept marketing cookies (in the cookie banner or by clicking a video's placeholder).
- Amazon only sets cookies on its own website, after you click one of our links.
- Our fonts are hosted on our own server: there is no connection to Google Fonts.
1. Cookies set by our consent tool (Complianz)
To respect your decision about cookies and external content, our consent tool Complianz stores your choice in its own cookies. They contain only your settings and are never used for analytics or advertising.
- cmplz_functional, cmplz_preferences, cmplz_statistics, cmplz_marketing: store your choice for each category.
- cmplz_consented_services: stores which individual services you have accepted.
- cmplz_policy_id: stores which version of our policy your choice refers to.
- cmplz_banner-status: stores whether you have already closed the cookie banner.
Duration: 365 days.
AI assistant (only with your ‘Preferences’ consent): if you accept the ‘Preferences’ category, our AI assistant keeps your current conversation in your browser's session storage (lcs_asis_v1), so that it is still there when you move to another page. It is deleted when you close the tab or as soon as you withdraw that consent. Without that consent, nothing is stored in your browser.
2. YouTube videos (only with your consent)
Some of our reviews and our author pages include YouTube videos. The videos are in Spanish. Our consent tool blocks them until you accept marketing cookies, either in the cookie banner (‘Accept’, or the ‘Marketing’ category under ‘View preferences’) or by clicking the placeholder of a video. Until then, nothing is loaded from YouTube and YouTube sets no cookies. On our website, the ‘Marketing’ category covers YouTube only.
Once you have accepted, the videos are loaded from YouTube's servers (Google). YouTube may then use cookies or your browser's local storage, including for audience measurement and advertising, and may also process data in the United States. The legal basis is your consent. Your choice is stored in the cmplz_marketing cookie for 365 days and you can withdraw it at any time with ‘Manage consent’ (see section 5). You will find more details in our privacy policy and in Google's privacy policy.
3. Links to Amazon and other websites
We do not load any Amazon scripts, pixels or cookies on our website. Only when you click an Amazon link and arrive on Amazon's website does Amazon set its own cookies there, for example to attribute a purchase to our affiliate account. Amazon's cookie notice applies to those cookies. The same goes for the simple links to LinkedIn and Instagram on our author pages: these services are not embedded on our website.
4. What we do not use
On lacasasibarita.co.uk we do not use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads or remarketing, the Meta Pixel, social media plugins, newsletter tools or chats with staff. The only chat on our website is our AI assistant, described in our privacy policy. Comments and Gravatar profile images are disabled. We do not track you or build profiles.
5. Changing or withdrawing your consent
On your first visit, the cookie banner lets you accept, reject or choose individual categories. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and the website works without your consent. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by reopening the cookie settings or by deleting the Complianz cookies in your browser.
6. Deleting or blocking cookies in your browser
You can delete cookies in your browser at any time and block them altogether or for specific websites. Here are the instructions:
If you delete the Complianz cookies, the banner will ask for your choice again on your next visit.
7. More information
For details about the data controller, your rights and the supervisory authorities, see our privacy policy and our legal notice. You can find general information about cookies at ico.org.uk and aboutcookies.org.
